ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To study the repair effect and mechanism of Zhixu burn ointment on deep second-degree burned model rats. METHODS The deep second-degree burned model was established with a temperature-controlled apparatus. The model rats were randomly divided into model group, Jingwanhong ointment group and Zhixu burn ointment high-dose, medium-dose and low-dose groups (specifications were 20 g core+20 mL wetting agent, 10 g core+20 mL wetting agent, 5 g core+20 mL wetting agent, respectively). Another blank control group (only dehairing treatment, no modeling) was set up, with 10 rats in each group. The rats in each administration group were given corresponding drugs, the rats in the blank control group were not treated, and the rats in the model group were given normal saline once a day for 21 d. The healing of burn wounds and histomorphological changes of burned skin in each group of rats were observed, and the healing rate of wounds was calculated; the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in the wound skin tissue of rats were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression levels of VEGF and platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (CD31) protein in burned skin tissue. RESULTS Compared with model group, the wound area of the rats in the Jingwanhong ointment and Zhixu burn ointment groups gradually decreased and healed significantly by day 21, and the wound healing rate was significantly higher (P<0.05 or P<0.01); thicker new epidermal layer was seen in the skin tissue, and connective tissue and new blood vessels were significantly increased in the dermis; the expression levels of IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α were significantly decreased (P<0.05 or P<0.01), and the expression levels of VEGF and CD31 protein were significantly increased (P<0.05 or P<0.01) in the burned skin tissue. CONCLUSIONS Zhixu burn ointment can repair the skin of deep second-degree burned model rats, and the mechanism may be related to reducing the inflammatory response of burn wound and promoting the angiogenesis.

ABSTRACT

Blumea balsamifera belonging to Blumea of Compositae family is a perennial herb or subshrub ,which is the only source of Traditional Chinese medicine Aipian and ethnic medicine essential oil of B. balsamifera . B. balsamifera contains volatile oil, flavonoids, sesquiterpenoids, phenylpropanoids, etc.,and shows antibacterial ,anti-inflammatory,analgesic,treating burns and scalds, neuroprotective and antioxidant effects ,etc. In this paper ,the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities are summarized by reviewing the domestic and foreign research literatures ,and it is expected to provide a reference for the in-depth research and development and utilization of B. balsamifera .

ABSTRACT

Human epidermal growth factor (hEGF) is a typical member of the growth factor family that activates epidermal growth factor receptors. It is synthesized and secreted by multiple tissues and organs of the human body, regulating the cell proliferation, differentiation and migration via binding to receptors and activating a series of signaling pathways. In recent years, the research on hEGF has been extended to its role in human physiology and pathology, especially in tissue regeneration and wound healing. This paper reviews the research progress of hEGF, briefly describes its gene and protein structure and characteristics, mechanisms and biological effects, with the emphasis on the roles and influences in the healing of gastrointestinal ulcers, skin wound repair and tumor pathology.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of non-ionic polyacrylamide(model:NPAM 1400)alone or combined with nanoscale silica gel (nSiO2) on the stability of Glycyrrhetinic acid lipo-emulsion. METHODS:UV-spectrophotometer was used to determine absorbance of diluent at 500 nm before and after lipo-emulsion centrifugation. Using the preparation without stable excipient as blank, stability coefficient (KE) and it ratio (KE/KE blank) were calculated. Effects of different concentrations (200-600 mg/L) of non-ionic polyacrylamide on the stability of Glycyrrhetinic acid lipo-emulsion were evaluated. The optimal concentration of non-ionic polyacrylamide alone was determined primarily, and then the effects of it combined with different concentrations of hydrophilic nSiO2 (0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%) or hydrophobic (0.2%, 0.3%, 0.5%) on the stability of Glycyrrhetinic acid lipo-emulsion were investigated. RESULTS:When adding non-ionic polyacrylamide alone,KE of Glycyrrhetinic acid lipo-emulsion mixed with 300 mg/L non-ionic polyacrylamide was the lowest,KE/KE blank was 0.22;when combined,KE of Glycyrrhetinic acid lipo-emulsion mixed with 300 mg/L non-ionic polyacrylamide and 0.2% hydrophobic nSiO2 was the lowest,KE/KE blank was 0.27. CONCLUSIONS:Non-ionic polyacrylamide alone or combined with nSiO2 all can promote the stability of Glycyrrhetinic acid lipo-emulsion,among which 300 mg/L non-ionic polyacrylamide alone is the best.

ABSTRACT

Object To compare the contents of chlorogenic acid in the different processed crude drugs of Lonicera fulvotomentosa Hsu et S.C. Cheng. Methods The contents of chlorogenic acid were deter mined by HPLC. Chromatographic conditions included Hypersil C 18 column and the mobile phase consisting of a mixture of acetonitrile 0 4% phosphoric acid (13∶87). Chlorogenic acid was detected at 327 nm wavelength. Results The contents of chlorogenic acid were 0 54%, 0 81%, 0 57% in the sun cured flower bud, white bloom, gold flower in L. fulvotomentosa and 2 14%, 1 65%, 2 04% in the steaming sun cured crude drugs, respectively. Conclusion The contents of chlorogenic acid in the steaming sun cured crude drugs are higher than those in the sun cured crude drugs.
